Balls Balls Balls

So here they are. These sickly little balls of cake-burgery goodness are what started my obsession with baking.

Well, not exactly… as a child I borrowed cookbooks from the library while the others were frothing over The Babysitters Club. But these are what made me want to really bake – for realsies.

When I first heard about cake balls, I knew that I wanted to be a baller. Not in the hood way that Destiny’s Child sang about, but in the delicious way that made people want to put a ring on it  - like what Beyonce said.

Having only just discovered my passion for baking I had never done anything other than eat chocolate… especially nothing fancy like tempering.  So making these intricate bite sized desserts that required 4 different colours of melted chocolate may have been a wee bit more than I could chew!

First I baked a cake. Just a simple cake. This doesn’t need to be a sweet cake – in fact it’s probably better to definitely not be a sweet cake. You’ll find out why in a minute.

Once the cake has been baked, allow it to cool completely. Then moosh it up into crummy cake goodness and mix a few spoonfuls of icing. I cheated and used Betty Crocker vanilla frosting, and this, my friends is exactly why you don’t want to make a sweet cake.

Roll them bad boys into some balls and there you have the nom nom nom centre for our cake balls.

NB: If you think you have perfect balls don’t get cocky, cause that’s the easy part.

Now you need to make the burger layers…

You’ll have to be very patient as each layer of chocolate needs to set before you do the next. I’m not even patient enough to type out how to do all the layers… just look at the pictures and figure it out.

The best part about these things is that the chocolate used for the buns is peanut butter flavoured. Awwyeah. Then sprinkle the top bun with white sprinkles for pretend sesame seeds.

And there you have it. CAKEBURGERBALLSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Nom nom nom.
